![]() Although George and Hanneke, Innkeepers of The Chalet Inn, are your hosts, Jesse's Cottage is separate from The Chalet Inn and located on its own property. The large kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans, and china and flatware for six. Amenities include air-conditioning, electric baseboard heat, TV(mountain fuzzy), VCR, radios and telephone with free local calls. Linens are provided at no charge, as is campfire wood.Couples and friends enjoy sharing the cottage. The living room and front porch are large enough for all to gather, while the diversity - front porch, side porch, living room, bedrooms with chairs - allows one to
escape with that book or needlepoint you have been trying to finish or to
simply contemplate the quiet.Jesse's Cottage is also especially suited for families with children of all ages. Children enjoy "camping out" in the Camping Cabin, while mom, dad, and the grandparents enjoy the comfort of fresh sheets in their spacious bedroom; a glance out your bedroom window assures you the kids are doing fine. Mom will appreciate the laundry room with its full-sized washer and dryer. The furnishings are comfortable, durable and only require reasonable care: there are not a bunch of antiques and knickknacks that you have to keep reminding the kids to leave alone or be careful with! The large flat area behind the cottage is perfect for the children to play in and use up their energy while you rock and recharge your batteries. The whole idea is to relax! You are welcome to pick the
apples, pears or grapes that Jesse planted (The grape vines came from his
father's homestead and are almost 100 years old.). The ground level
access to the kitchen and handicap ramp to the front porch, coupled with all
the rooms being on one level and having wide doors enhance the vacation for
the physically challenged. From the cottage to the stream is also level
and easily negotiated. As seasoned travelers, we searched a long time for the ideal location to settle. One, that is a vantage point from which to enjoy nature's beauty, and yet is centrally located and within minutes to a variety of attractions. You have a choice of many activities. Ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railway or enjoy a "Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine." See the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, tour the Cherokee Indian Reservation, and wind along the panoramic Blue Ridge Parkway. Mountain bike in the Tsali Mountain Bike Area, rated one of the ten best Mountain Bike Areas in the United States. Go white water rafting (Rafting suitable for children under 60 pounds is only a three minute drive away; the more challenging rapids in the Nantahala River Gorge are only a 25 minute drive.). Enjoy tubing down Deep Creek, gem-mining, trout fishing, and horseback riding. Western North Carolina has enough to do to keep vacationers busy for a long time. Nearby is Asheville's Biltmore Estate, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest - the only virgin forest in the Eastern United States, Fontana Dam, and Whiteside Mountain and Whitewater Falls, the longest vertical drop and the tallest waterfalls, respectively, in the Eastern United States. Fontana and Bear Lakes are ideal for boating and fishing. We pride ourselves with being genial hosts, and over the years of Innkeeping have gathered a lot of information and knowledge about Western North Carolina. Families that have stayed at Jesse's have told us they got a lot more out of their vacation at Jesse's than previous stays in the area. Why? Because instead of just being given the keys and told have a good time, they had access to our maps, information and suggestions of things to do. We hope you will come stay at Jesse's Cottage. We will certainly do our best to make your stay a most pleasant and enjoyable one, while being perceptive enough to know when you just want to enjoy your family and find your own way!
